No SMS - Waffles with Lemon Curd and Berries

Patty and I joined Sweet Melissa Sunday's at the same time and became blogging friends. Check out her blog, she takes amazing photographs. Patty, so sorry to not be participating today, we have out of town company this weekend. Instead I chose to share a favorite breakfast restaurant and my own version of one of their recipes.

Hands down my favorite place to eat breakfast in Omaha is a locally owned restaurant, Wheatfields. Whenever we have company in town we'll take them there. The next time they're in town, they always ask to go back. One of the special breakfast treats on the Wheatfield's menu is their Creme Brulee waffle. It's a waffle with a layer of custard, berries and whipped cream. It's just decadent and I am sure about a zillion calories. No wonder, I love it so much.

I wanted to create a similar dish at home. I used a layer of leftover lemon curd, berries and powdered sugar. Yummy and maybe not quite as many calories as Wheatfields.

We are both retired now and when my husband was working for the city, this is where we were required to live. We really love it here. Both of our granddaughters live just 10 minutes from here in Overland Park. Happy Sunday.

  2. Julie on your planned cruise. The cruise line Princess has those package deals where they bus you into Denali and you stay at the Princess Lodge there. When we went in 08 we saw them. Princess owns a huge lodge there in Denali for this purpose. Homer is so far from there. Trying to see Alaska is costly and you have to rent a motor home to get around and it takes a lot of time to boot. From people I hear who take a cruise it's the cheapest way to travel but you don't get to see as much as driving around. However they go the some pretty spectacular ports. Nan

  3. That looks wonderful, Julie! I think I'd like it both ways (being a big fan of creme brulee too). I sometimes mix yogurt with lemon curd and pour it over fruit for company breakfasts!

  4. I live vicariously through all of you people who post about breakfast. All hubby ever eats is peanut butter toast and none of my kids have ever eaten anything but cereal. One of these days I'm going to make a decadent breakfast such as this and then kick my scales to the curb. There.... now everyone's happy!

  8. That looks delicious Julie! I love waffles and may have to try these instead of just eating them with maple syrup. :)

    I missed SMS and will miss Chocolate with Francois this month. :( Just don't have the extra money to spend on the ingredients.
