In My Garden
This weekend we (or should I say Tim) finished my raised garden bed. Thank You, Tim!
We planted (and yes I really did ) tomatoes, basil, oregano, rosemary and sage. We started lettuce, peas and brussels sprouts from seed. I hope you'll follow along with me to see the results.

Indoor Gardening - Week Seven
Week seven and the herbs in the AeroGarden are growing like crazy...well at least some of them are anyway. The basil and parsley are beautiful. The sage looks pretty good, although the leaves seem to curl a little. The mint and chives are another story. The mint is puny and the chives are almost non existent. Maybe they will get a growth sprurt here in the next few weeks?
As the plants start to grow, their water absorbtion increases. You have to keep a close eye on the water levels and replenish twice a week.

Indoor Gardening - Week Six
Six weeks have passed since I "planted" the herbs in my AeroGarden. The garden is really starting to take shape.
I am seeing the same pattern with the chives and mint. The chives are very slow in growing and aren't as I would like. The mint leaves are really small. Hopefully they will grow larger as the garden continues to grow.

As with my last herb garden, the basil is the star! I am looking forward to using experimenting with the lemon basil. And of course, there's nothing better than fresh basil when it's cold outside.
Hopefully within the next couple of weeks, I can begin to harvest some of the herbs.

Indoor Gardening - Week Five
My AeroGarden is really beginning to grow. The herbs are taking shape and starting to be recognizable.
At week five, the garden still does not require much water or care. As the garden starts to grow more, it will require pruning and more frequent watering.
I am beginning to start accumulating recipes using my fresh herbs!

Indoor Gardening Week Four
Week Four is the first time to feed the AeroGarden. The seed kits come with nutrients to feed the plants. The nutrients are added to the water and at the same time you make sure the water reservoir is full. The AeroGarden has a red light that flashes when it is time to feed and water the garden. How easy is that?
As you can see from the photo the herbs are starting to grow. The chives are still slow in getting started. The chives didn't grow well last time. I hope this isn't a sign they aren't going to do well this time.
A few more weeks and even though it's cold outside, we'll have beautiful fresh herbs.

Indoor Gardening - Week Two
During the first few weeks the AeroGarden needs very little care. It requires very little watering, if any. The first feeding is at the end of the second week.
A few of my herbs are starting to show signs of life. The basil was the first to peek out of the pod. The sage is showing signs of life. Nothing happening in the mint, chives or parsley pods.
If I remember right the herbs really start to grow in week three. There's so little change from last week, I didn't take a photo.

Indoor Gardening - Week One
Last year for my birthday, Tim bought me an AeroGarden. I'd been wanting one for a while but held off because they are a little spendy. After several growing seasons with this garden, the expense is so worth it!!! You can have fresh lettuce, tomatoes or herbs all year long.
I planted my newest garden on October 8th. I am going to blog through the growing season of this garden. Here's what I planted and their germination time:
Lemon Basil - 4 to 7 days
Curly Parsley - 15 to 21 days
Genovese Basil - 3 to 7 days
Mint - 6 to 10 daysS
Sage - 7 to 10 days
Chives - 5 to 10 days
I've grown the chives, mint and genovese basil before. My chives have never done very well. The basil grows beautifully and the mint grew fairly well. I am anxious to see how these herbs grow. I hope you'll follow along with me!

Cardinal Basil
I needed one more plant for my small herb and vegetable garden. There is a vendor at the Farmer's Market with lots of varieties of beautiful basil. On Saturday, I saw a variety I wasn't familiar with, Cardinal Basil. It flowers and looks much like celosia when flowering. After getting the plant in the ground, I googled to see what information I could find. There's not much information out there. I am looking forward to watching the plant grow and coming up with ways to use it.
