Tres Leches Cupcackes - Martha Stewart Cupcakes Club

Never having made or eaten tres leches cake, I wasn't sure what to expect. Tres leches means three milks and is a Latin American dessert.

These cupcakes were easy to put together. The only thing that takes any time is brushing on the milk mixture after they're done baking. I made 1/4 of the recipe and ended up with 6 cupcakes. The instructions call for using foil cupcake liners. I didn't have foil liners. I decided to take my chances and use two regular liners. It worked fine!

Tres Leches is on My 50 list. Cross another one off the list, 6 down 44 to go. I loved the texture and moistness of these cupcakes. The recipe says to let these sit at least 30 minutes before eating. We ate one the first night and I found the flavor to kind of blah. I ate one the next day and LOVED it. Waiting 24 hours is the key to these cupcakes. I will be making these again. I am already trying to decide how to tweak the recipe with other flavors.

Thanks to Lisa of Smiley's Sweets and Creations for choosing such a great recipe. You can find links to all other other MSC bakers here!

  4. I'm glad these were a hit for you! I couldn't get past the wet texture of mine. Tres leches was on my to-do list for a while too so I'm glad to cross it off even if it wasn't a favorite.

  5. I'm glad you liked these an were able to knock them off your to-do list. We ate them right away and weren't thrilled. Now, I'm wondering if I would have liked these better if they had sit overnight....oh well.

  6. It is so exciting to read that someone loved these! I was trying to love them, they sounded like they would be exciting, and then I realized that it was too wet for our tastes (I make a very dry French Toast around here if you get my drift). Anyway, I always love for all these recipes to be a hit with everyone (that's why they get chosen for the books, right?), so it was fun to read your post and find that you enjoyed them...and your judging from the photographic evidence, they look really great!

  7. okay, I can't wait to try another one tomorrow!

and let us know if you found a flavour-tweak that works. I was a little concerned that there wasn't any vanilla in the cupcake, so I put some in the whipped cream, and I think that with the added dusting of cinnamon helped a lot.

  9. Those cupcakes look delicious Julie!
I know I would have gobbled them all down right away and sadly not have discovered their real yumminess! Patience is a virtue so it goes HA!
Thank you for your visit and nice comment!!

  12. I am glad you liked these--it was "ok" for me, and probably won't make again. I let mine sit overnight as well before topping.
