Pink Saturday Cake

Happy Pink Saturday!!!

I just completed the Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste classes. I love working with fondant. Fondant reminds me of play dough. It's a therapeutic reminder of childhood, fun to work with and the possibilities are endless!!

Today for Pink Saturday, I am sharing my cake from the class. Of course, it's PINK!!

If you have time today, stop by and say hello to my friend Peggy's at My Affairs with Art and Daily Life. Peggy's husband is recovering from a stroke. I know she'd love hello's from all of the "Pink Saturday Gals".

Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting this Pink Party every Saturday!!!

Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday!

Last weekend Tim and I went to the antique show in Walnut, Iowa. It's a street fair of over 300 antique dealers from all over the United States. As we walked the streets in addition to lots of antiques, we saw beautiful gardens. Don't you just love these impatients in the old bathtub?

Couldn't resist sharing this one with you...there is a pair of pink pants on the back of the line :)

Pink Saturday - Buttermilk Pomegranate Sorbet

I am excited to be one of the Pink Saturday bloggers being featured today! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I have a great summer recipe to share with you.

I received an email from POM Wonderful offering to send me some pomegranate juice. Who could pass up an offer for free juice? Thanks, POM Wonderful. Until a few months ago, I'd never had a pomegranate or pomegranate juice. If you enjoy flavored vodka, you'll like this Pomegranate Infused Vodka. When squash is plentiful in the Fall, give this Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato and Pomegranate Soup a try.

Having tried a cocktail and a main dish with pomegranates, I decided to try a dessert. I love the smooth and creamy texture of this sorbet. Using this recipe as a guide, I made Buttermilk Pomegranate Sorbet. The pomegrantes give it a nice tart flavor with just a hint of sweetness.

Pomegranate Sorbet
Makes approximately 7 cups

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1 tablespoons lemon zest
2 cups buttermilk

Stir sugar, pomegranate juice and lemon zest in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk, stir until sugar is dissolved. Chill until cold, at least 4 hours. Process mixture in ice cream freezer, approximately 20 minutes. Transfer to contained with lid; freeze. (Can be made 3 days ahead.)

My notes on this recipe: I added about 1/4 cup of vodka to this recipe. I drizzled it into the mixture while it was freezing. You know how homemade ice cream can be hard to scoop? The alcohol keeps it from freezing too hard.

Happy Pink Saturday!

I love Pink Saturday. This is my sixth week participating. It's the most wonderful group of women. Everyone is fun and interesting. What a great way to begin the weekend! It doesn't get any better than pouring myself a cup of coffee and visiting with friends. I guess it's the cyber way of coffee with your friends. Thanks to Beverly of How Sweet The Sound for hosting this fabulous weekly event!!

This week I am sharing with you the cake I decorated for the final class in Wilton Course 1 of Cake Decorating. I really enjoyed these classes, so much so I signed up for Course 2 starting next Monday night. If I had a criticism of the classes it would be the amount of techniques they try to teach in a night. Last week after we finished learning the techniques, we had about 20 minutes to finish decorating our cakes. I really wanted to put roses on top of my cake. These roses are HARD! I think they'll get easier with practice but they're hard. I didn't have time to finish the cake in class. I ended up with two good or should I say acceptable roses. My plan was to make a few more at home. This has been a crazy, busy week. Finally a couple of nights ago, I tried to make a few more roses. I couldn't get the frosting the proper consistency. I had frosting everywhere. The kitchen was one big icing disaster. I made a couple of leaves and called it a cake!

I didn't like the way the cake looked. I thought if we ate a couple of pieces it would distract you from my not so beautiful decorating job. Did it work?

This week I'd like to introduce you to another one of my Pink Saturday friends, Debbie of Debbie Dabbles. Stop by her blog, you'll enjoy your time there!

Wine Country Flowers - Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday. My post is linked to Pink Saturday at How Sweet The Sound.

Just about a year ago my husband and I took a vacation to the wine country in Sonoma. I'd never been to this part of the country. Being a wine and food lover, I was so excited about our trip. The trip didn't dissapoint. It was a relaxing vacation to a beautiful part of the country where we toured some great wineries and sampled some wonderful wines. I can't wait to go again!

The flower in the header on my blog is one we photographed while in Sonoma. For your Pink Saturday viewing pleasure, here are a few others.

I'd like to introduce you to Sarah of The Open Cupboard. She's my "next door" neighbor in Iowa and just one of many new Pink Saturday friends.

Pink Saturday - Happy Easter!

I participated in my first Pink Saturday last weekend. Pink is a bright, wonderful color and my favorite color. I should have known this would be an amazing group of bloggers. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome I received!!

I love to color Easter eggs! Eventhough I don't have any kids at home, I bought the Paas Easter Egg kit and colored eggs. It was so much fun!

Peeps....either you love them or hate them. I don't like them but my husband does. He was thrilled when I said I need pink Peeps for Pink Saturday! Are you a Peep fan?

Happy Easter!!
